A 17-year-old male who suffered gunshot wounds early this morning on Mission Street was reportedly caught between two people engaged in a gun battle, police have reported.

The incident took place around 1am on Mission Street between 24th Street and Ocean Avenue where two suspects described as men in their twenties were engaged in a shootout.

Police told Hoodline the victim wasn't able to name a specific location, and the ShotSpotter system that helps officers determine where a gun was fired was not activated.

The injured teen was transported to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, and no arrests were made in the case.

Anyone who has information about this incident is encouraged to contact SFPD via the department's anonymous tip line at 415-575-4444, or text TIP411 with "SFPD" at the start of the message.
