Director Tim Burton describes Batman as "more of a cultural phenomenon than a great movie," which makes it an ideal pairing for an evening with the San Francisco Symphony.

On Wednesday, April 4th and Thursday, April 5th, SFS will perform Danny Elfman's score live at a screening of Burton's 1989 film, which pits the sadistic yet charismatic Joker (Jack Nicholson) against an isolated billionaire who plays vigilante by night (Michael Keaton).

The film's score by Elfman—who previously partnered with Burton on Edward Scissorhands and composed the theme to The Simpsons—won a Grammy for Best Instrumental Composition.

With dazzling production design, star performances (and a song by Prince!), it will be an evening to remember.

February is the shortest month, which means your weekend should be long on plans.

SF Beer Week continues with a special beer-themed Nightlife event at the Academy of Sciences on Thursday, a free screening of Blade Runner 2049 on Friday and a spicy hops event at the SoMa Streat Food Park on Saturday.

The beer festival ends Sunday, so be sure to check out its entire schedule of events.

Chinese New Year lands on Friday, and though the big parade is next week, there's a few ways to get an early start on the celebrations this weekend with traditional music and dance performances on Friday, a Year of the Dog photography exhibit on Saturday and an afternoon of acrobatics and art on Sunday.

Even dogs get in on the New Year festivities, including a group walk along the Embarcadero and the start of the second annual New York Dog Film Festival in the Castro.

Other things to keep an eye on this weekend include a free discussion about Emperor Norton's legacy in the Tenderloin on Thursday, a drag queen bingo party on Friday, running a mile in your underwear for charity during Cupid's Undie Run on Saturday, and bedazzling everything in sight at an art party in the Mission on Sunday.

Take a look at the list below to find additional things to do in the days ahead.
