A Monday afternoon at Kalamazoo Central High School was disrupted when police discovered a 16-year-old student carrying a loaded, stolen firearm on school property. The unsettling revelation sent ripples through the educational community as authorities acted swiftly to prevent a potential tragedy. 

The Kalamazoo Township Police Department was promptly called to the scene after school staff were tipped off about the potentially armed student. According to a report by WOODTV, law enforcement was able to quickly find and safely secure the loaded weapon from the student without incident, forestalling what could have otherwise possibly been a grave situation. The gun, besides being loaded, was found to be stolen.

The incident, which took place around 2:00 p.m., saw no injuries among staff or students, as per authorities. The juvenile was taken into custody and is now lodged at the Kalamazoo County Juvenile Home, facing a slew of serious charges, as noted by FOX 17 News. These charges are pending review by the Kalamazoo County Prosecutor’s Office and include carrying a concealed weapon, violating a weapon-free school zone, and possession of stolen property.

The Kalamazoo Township Police Department continues actively to investigate the circumstances leading up to this disconcerting discovery. Community members or anyone with relevant information have been encouraged to step forward and connect with the authorities directly.
