Houston Home Saved from Flames, $115K in Property Preserved; Incense to Blame for FireSource: Google Street View

A blaze ripped through a residence in the South Acres / Crestmont Park area in Houston, causing significant damage but fortunately no injuries, officials say. The incident, which occurred on the 4400 block of Botany Ln. yesterday, elicited a hefty response from local fire crews working to douse the flames that threatened to consume the home.

According to a Houston city news release, the fire broke out around 3:32 p.m. and was battled by 36 personnel from numerous stations, including 47, 23, 26, 46, 35, 55, 24, 31, 80, and 24. Their rapid response is credited with saving around $115,000 worth of property from being turned to ash despite the fire causing an estimated $25,000 in damage.

Upon arrival, smoke was seen coming from the front door by firefighters who were forced to enter and extinguish the fire and find no extension. It's believed that the inferno began with discarded or abandoned material. Specifically, a resident admitted to leaving incense burning before departing their domicile.

The unoccupied home, where the fire was detected, was a hearth of cost and chaos, now stands as a charred testament to the thin line between routine and emergency. No residents were harmed since no one was home when the fire commenced.
