Long Beach Unveils 'Wellspring' Affordable Housing and Wellness Center, Funded by California's $20M GrantSource: California Department of Housing and Community Development

Long Beach is welcoming a game-changing development to its lineup of community assets with the grand opening of Wellspring, a swanky new 88-unit affordable housing complex complete with a community health and wellness center. The state of California has coughed up a cool $20 million from the Department of Housing and Community Development's Multifamily Housing Program, greasing the wheels to make this project a reality.

The brains behind the build, Bridge Housing, has crafted a two-in-one solution to quickly, and effectively address the homeless crisis while promoting better health among those in need. Wellspring is throwing open its doors to 67 households earning between 20-60 percent of the Area Median Income, while setting aside 20 units of permanent supportive housing for disabled folks or those special needs individuals teetering on the edge of homelessness, according to the California Department of Housing and Community Development’s recent announcement.

But it's not just about a roof over their heads. Wellspring tenants will also enjoy the perks of a community room, some fresh air in the outdoor space, and even laundry facilities — because everyone needs clean clothes. Tucked in a neighborhood that’s a stone's throw from public transport, parks, libraries, and schools, this complex has it all. Plus, with TCC Family Health running the on-site wellness center, residents are looking at a holistic approach to living well under one roof.

Chipping away at the daunting state goal of rolling out upward of 2.5 million homes in the next six years, about one million aimed for low-income wallets, Wellspring is proof that the HCD isn't just throwing around big numbers but is putting down concrete blocks to build a sturdier future for Californians in need.
