The city of Nashville is in the grip of a manhunt following the tragic shooting of a California rapper with connections to Justin Bieber, authorities said. Christopher Cheeks, 32, known professionally as Chris King, was fatally shot early Saturday in what has been described by police as a robbery attempt gone awry.

Adrian Cameron Jr., just 19 years old, has been named as the suspect in this violent encounter that unfolded along Hayes Street. Cameron was already under scrutiny, out on bond for the 2021 murder of 50-year-old Josh Evans, as reported by Fox News. Despite being monitored by an ankle device as part of his bond conditions, data indicates it was cut off shortly after King's murder.

The Tennessean details that the fatal incident occurred at approximately 2:30 a.m. in an alley between Hayes and Church Streets. The victims had been approached by three men, initially engaging in what appeared to be a friendly conversation, before the situation escalated into violence. "The 29-year-old victim reported the group was hanging out cordially for some time before the three suspects attempted to rob his group of friends," the Tennessean quotes the police statement.

Cheek's friend, 29, also suffered gunshot wounds in the attack, though his identity has not been released by the authorities. After being transported to Vanderbilt University Medical Center, Cheeks was pronounced dead, according to information from Today. Cameron, the teen suspect who was charged with criminal homicide as a juvenile before being indicted as an adult for voluntary manslaughter, is now the subject of an intense police search.
