A raging inferno claimed a life and left another individual with severe injuries in a Nashua neighborhood Saturday morning. Firefighters were summoned to a blaze tearing through a multi-family residence at 26 Cross Street just before the sun rose, around 7:30 a.m. according to NBC Boston.

Upon arrival crews encountered a scene of destruction with flames visibly engulfing the building, which was doused in time to prevent it from spreading to neighboring homes, one victim, however, was not as fortunate and was discovered deceased amongst the rubble while another was rushed to the hospital after suffering serious burns as reported by officials and detailed by Boston 25 News.

While the destructive blaze was confined and extinguished, the aftermath left several residents without a roof over their heads, prompting the Red Cross to step in and offer emergency assistance. A somber reminder of how quickly flames can upend lives comes as authorities continue to sift through the debris, seeking answers to the cause of the fire that still remains under investigation.

While the community grapples with the shock, and local investigators work alongside fire officials to piece together the circumstances that led to this tragedy, the names of the deceased and injured have not yet been made public as the investigation is ongoing.
