Santa Clarita Community Embarks on Environmentally Driven Cleanup and Arbor Day CelebrationSource: Facebook/City of Santa Clarita Government

Residents of Santa Clarita combined forces this Saturday for a good cause. The annual Neighborhood Cleanup event, held on April 27, coincided with the celebrations of National Arbor Day and Earth Day, turning it into a community-wide environmental initiative. Volunteers across the city rolled up their sleeves, armed with bags and gloves provided at one of three drive-through locations, between 8:00 and 11:00 a.m., as reported by City Manager Ken Striplin.

This yearly effort is more than just trash collection; it's an exercise in unity and environmental awareness. In a statement, Striplin noted, "This cleanup event not only results in immediate improvements in the aesthetics of our neighborhoods, but also fosters a sense of unity and pride among our residents." The event was also a chance for the city to showcase its dedication to green policies, as Santa Clarita again takes home the Tree City USA award for the 34th year straight.

In addition to the cleanup, Santa Clarita is also planting new roots. A ceremonial tree planting took place at Valencia Heritage Park at 10:00 a.m. to honor Arbor Day, and participants of the Cleanup were treated to free mulch and a 1-gallon drought-resistant plant. These efforts reflect the city's commitment to not only maintaining but also expanding its tree-lined streets and lush parks.

The eco-action doesn't stop there. Santa Clarita gears up for its 20th Annual Bike to Work Challenge, slated for May 13-17. Striplin encourages the workforce in his statement, "I encourage all of our local businesses to motivate their employees to join this eco-friendly commute." On the line are raffle prizes, including a brand-new bike, and the business with the most riders wins a free lunch treat. Those who pedal to their jobs can look forward to pit stops on May 16, offering refreshments from 7:00 to 9:00 a.m.
