Austin's Culinary Scene Heats Up as P Thai’s Khao Man Gai Launches New Space on Airport BoulevardSource: Instagram / pthaiatx

Foodies in Austin, rejoice. P Thai’s Khao Man Gai, a beloved Thai Chinese street food stall, has quickly set to bounce back from its temporary closure with a brand new space on the bustling Airport Boulevard. As of April 30, the eatery known for its delectably simplistic Thai-style Hainanese chicken and rice has opened doors at 4807 Airport Boulevard, taking over the space where Tex-Mex fan-favorite Vamonos once stood.

The new joint is more than just a reboot; it's a revved-up version of the former street stall. Its owner and chef Thai Changthong, the culinary force also behind Austin hotspot Thai Kun, has planned to bring a zest of Thai-Chinese cuisine to North Loop. According to a report by Eater, diners can look forward to savoring dishes like boat noodles and Thai sukiyaki, expanding beyond the staple khao man gai, which comes in classic and fried chicken variants.

Following a setback due to the closure of the Hong Kong Supermarket where it initially operated, Changthong hopes for smoother sailing at the new location. He took to social media to express his gratitude: "I want to thank [everyone] for being here, for supporting me, and for riding with me on this roller coaster," Changthong’s heartfelt thanks echoed on his social feeds as per Community Impact report.

For now, guests can visit P Thai’s for dinner hours from 5 to 9 p.m., with plans to gradually extend operating hours. Changthong has disclosed to Eater that the limited service is a placeholder until he can hire more cooks. With the right team, he intends to firmly establish a permanent and comprehensive dining experience that mirrors the rich street food culture of Bangkok’s Chinatown.

The new chapter of P Thai’s Khao Man Gai adds a fresh culinary beacon to Airport Boulevard’s growing map of food destinations.
