Gunfire in Mattapan last night led to the arrest of a Hyde Park man on firearms charges after ShotSpotter technology alerted officers to the sound of gunfire. According to Boston Police, at around 9:18 PM, officers from District B-3 arrived at 33 Edgewater Drive to investigate a Shot Spotter activation that reported four rounds fired.

During their response, cops stumbled upon a car crash and stepped in to help the injured. While on the scene, they noticed a man nearby who was drinking alcohol. Police questioned him about the shots, but he started to back away, all the while fidgeting with a crossbody bag that appeared heavy. A scuffle broke out when the man resisted a pat down and pushed away the officers. Police said they felt a gun handle inside the bag during the tussle. Shortly after, 36-year-old Rircardo Marcelin was handcuffed and disarmed.

The weapon in question, retrieved from Marcelin's bag, was identified as a loaded RG Revolver containing four live rounds and one spent shell casing. Officers' prompt action potentially averted further violence in the area where shots were reportedly fired. Details on the car accident at the scene remain sparse, but it is not currently linked to the shooting incident.

Marcelin is now facing charges for unlawful possession of a firearm and ammunition, according to the Boston Police Department. He is slated for arraignment at Dorchester District Court, where the judiciary process will seek to discern his role in the evening's violence.
