With the influx of over 100,000 participants expected, the Galveston County Sheriff's Office is ramping up its largest-ever operation ahead of the raucous "Jeep Weekend" on Crystal Beach. Preparations started back in February and involve a detailed strategy that includes 141 county deputies patrolling on Saturday, additional state troopers, and emergency services at the ready, as reported by the Houston Chronicle.

Despite an increase in arrests during last year's event—a 34% spike from 2022 to 2023, as per KTRK—local businesses are shuttering their doors to avoid the chaos, with some expressing concerns over crime and left-behind trash after the unsponsored event. An employee from Tiki Beach bar cited the past trouble with patrons skipping out on checks as a reason for their closure, while The Island Café manager lamented the disheveled state of the beaches courtesy of previous year's attendees they decided closing was the best option for the weekend.

To bolster the event’s security response, the sheriff's office has enlisted the help of Galveston County Emergency Services and the County's Office of Emergency Management. According to Major Ray Nolen, cited in the Houston Chronicle report, this year's non-sponsored event is placing a considerable demand on resources, prompting the involvement of a mobile hospital from UTMB and an emergency response helicopter to be on standby.

While Crystal Beach braces for the invasion of Jeep lovers, the local law enforcement is upping the ante, with an estimated 145 officers patrolling, a hike from the 130 personnel deployed the previous year,  as detailed by KTRK.
