The Garland Police Department has recently celebrated the remarkable achievements of its officers at the annual Police Awards Banquet, recognizing a host of personnel who have gone above and beyond in their duties to serve the community. The ceremony, held to honor the exceptional individuals within the department, highlighted the valor, dedication, and relentless pursuit of excellence by these officers.
In the banquet that saw the community's finest in blue honored, a series of "Of the Year" awards were presented to standout members of the force. Volunteer Tom Little walked away with the Volunteer of the Year award, while Tara Huggin secured the Civilian of the Year title for her role as a Forensics Investigator. The accolades continued with Kristy Grimes named Detention Officer of the Year, and Tanner Baker receiving the Communications Operator of the Year award, recognized for their respective commitments to the Garland community, according to the Garland Police Department.
The evening's celebration also honored Nicholas Roussel with the Excellence in DWI Enforcement award, and Norma Gonzalez took home the Detective of the Year title. Leadership was also in the spotlight as Lt. Wall Sneed was named Supervisor of the Year. Officer Skylar Kempel was distinguished as Officer of the Year, and the Gang Unit received the Unit of the Year distinction, all testament to the individual and collective efforts that contribute to public safety in Garland.
