A deadly altercation erupted at a Houston gas station leading to the fatal shooting of 44-year-old Teresa Houston, with the suspect subsequently engaging in a gunfight with a Harris County deputy early Tuesday morning. Charges have been filed against Tilford Anthony Joseph, 46, for Houston's murder and the assault on a public servant, as he now faces the legal ramifications of that violent predawn encounter.

According to the City of Houston News, the ordeal commenced around 12:35 a.m., when an argument at the gas station at 6019 Almeda Road spiraled into chaos, Joseph, wielded a handgun and began chasing Houston through the premises and, despite her desperate attempts to flee, Joseph unleashed a barrage gunfire at her. Houston succumbed to her injuries at the scene, her life extinguished amidst the fuel pumps and convenience store aisles where she sought refuge.

The suspect evaded immediate capture by hijacking the deputy's patrol car, only to abandon it and return to his vehicle to flee, prompting an intense manhunt. He is now behind bars.
