Incumbents and New Amendments Prevail in Carrollton's General and Special Charter ElectionSource: Vox Efx, CC BY 2.0, via Wikimedia Commons

The citizens of Carrollton have spoken, or at least they've begun to murmur their choices in the city's latest democratic spectacle that unfolded on May 4. According to early and unofficial voting results for the Carrollton General and Special Charter Election, some races are running tighter than expected while others are an outright shoo-in. Don't get too comfy with the numbers though; they won't be set in stone until the City Council officially canvasses the votes on Tuesday, May 14, according to the City of Carrollton, Texas.

And speaking of numbers, let's dive in. Running unopposed, Richard Fleming retained his seat with a clean 100% for Council Place 3—and that's not an election you lose. Christopher Axberg is looking at a knife-edge majority with 50.50% for Council Place 1, which is more reminiscent of a coin flip than a cushy win. Meanwhile, Nancy Cline came out strong for Council Place 5 with 67.55% of the vote, and Rowena Watters has secured a comforting 57.59% for Council Place 7—barring any surprises come official tally time.

It wasn't just the seats catching eyes though, the city's Charter is looking at some changes with three propositions on the ballot all passing with flying colors. Prop A is soaring high with a whopping 91.23% approval, followed by Prop B at 85.58% and Prop C at 79.82%. These amendments to the city's legal framework are looking like a done deal, but as we've said, the fat lady hasn't sung till the council says she has.
