A tragic unfolding occurred within the walls of the George Bailey Detention Facility where 38-year-old Majid Arif Almajid was found lifeless on his bunk by deputies. The San Diego Sheriff's Department reported that despite immediate medical intervention by deputies and jail medical staff, and later by paramedics from CAL FIRE, Almajid could not be revived following his discovery unresponsive around 11:15 a.m. on May 5.
Almajid had been in custody since December 20, 2023, after being arrested on disturbing charges including several counts of sexual acts with a child 10 years or younger. The arrest was carried out by the U.S. Marshals Service Fugitive Task Force, with Almajid being booked initially into the San Diego Central Jail before being transferred to George Bailey Detention Facility six days later. He resided in Ramona, at the time of his arrest.
