Officials in Gwinnett County have started building what's set to be a gathering hub at Lenora Park, snipping the ribbon on a project aimed at taking the community's sweat and social scenes up a notch. This Wednesday ground was broken on the future community recreation center, which promises to beef up the old gym space and inject some new life into the park.

The new center will not just be a place for muscle flexing but is set to include all the bells and whistles with a community room featuring a catering kitchen, dance and art rooms, and class space for the brainier types. According to a statement by Nicole Love Hendrickson, the chairwoman of the Gwinnett County Board of Commissioners obtained by Gwinnett County's news announcement, the expansion aims at creating a "strong, connected communities."

Forget about that level one treadmill with a view of the parking lot. This center's coming with an upper deck walking track that lets you spy on the goings-on below, and outside, you've got more parking and a snazzy drop-off spot. They're pulling all the stops, from upgraded restrooms to high-class locker rooms.

But hey, it's not all about indoor play. The park's face-lift includes a field that's been kicked up a notch to synthetic turf, and for those who know their sports, a new press box and maintenance spot's in the works, highlighted by Jasper Watkins III, the District 3 Commissioner, in a statement obtained by Gwinnett County's news announcement. Oh, and for the night owls, they're adding lighted outdoor basketball and pickleball courts, because why should sports stop when the sun goes down?
