Man Found Dead After Attempting to Swim Across Laguna Lake in FullertonSource: Orange County Sheriff's Department

A man's weekend swim in Fullerton's Laguna Lake ended tragically, with his body being retrieved by a dive team, officials reported. The Orange County Sheriff's Department responded to the incident after the man, whose name has yet to be disclosed, was observed attempting to swim across the body of water but failed to re-emerge.

First responders rushed to the scene around 7 p.m. Saturday between Euclid Street and Harbor Boulevard south of Imperial Highway, following reports of the swimmer's disappearance. As the dusk settled on the lake, a search was initiated. "Upon arrival, police and fire personnel were notified that an adult male entered the lake, attempted to swim across, and was not seen exiting," Kristy Wells from the Fullerton Police Department detailed in a statement obtained by NBC Los Angeles.

The victim was located by the dive team and was pronounced dead at the scene, the Orange County Sheriff's Department confirmed. According to CBS News, swimming is not allowed in Laguna Lake, which is frequented by locals for biking and other outdoor pursuits.

While the coroner's office works to notify the next of kin and prepare to release his identity, no foul play is suspected in the man's demise. In an area built for leisure, the incident casts a shadow as Fullerton officials remind the public that despite the lake's appeal, it remains a place observed by rules meant to protect its visitors, the very rules that were not followed on that fatal swim mentioned by CBS News.
