Miami Mother Charged with Child Neglect After Toddlers Found Alone in Condo ComplexSource: Miami-Dade Corrections and Rehabilitation

A mother is facing child neglect charges after her young children were reportedly found unattended in a Miami condominium complex, law enforcement officials said Thursday. Regina Mukoseeva, 35, allegedly left her 2-year-old son and 4-year-old daughter in The Madison Condominiums, prompting a neighbor to alert police after finding the children alone, Local 10 News reported.

Attempting to reach out to Mukoseeva, police said they found her in her eighth-floor apartment and later watched surveillance video, which captured her leaving with the eldest child in an elevator. The 2-year-old was subsequently found in a garage elevator, randomly pressing buttons and eventually following a man out of the Conway. After the boy was left to wander on his own, he returned to the garage elevator, where he was found crying.

Security personnel at the complex intervened, with a housekeeping employee eventually taking the toddler to the property manager’s office by 7:55 a.m. The property manager, Maria Herrera, confirmed to police that Mukoseeva’s daughter opened the door to her and conveyed that her mother was out dropping another sibling at school, as per police statements. Mukoseeva’s charges include two counts of child neglect without great bodily harm, and she remains in custody at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center, according to jail records.

When questioned by detectives at the Miami Police Department's main station with her children present, Mukoseeva willingly spoke without legal representation. According to the authorities, she claimed that both children were sick with symptoms of vomiting and fever, assuring officials that she routinely warned them about staying away from the balcony and only stepped out briefly "to throw out trash or get the mail from downstairs," Local 10 News reported.
