Persistent Rain to Soak Portland All Week, NWS Advises No Respite Until MidweekSource: Flickr / Eric Sonstroem

Portland residents might have to keep their umbrellas out all week as the wet weather shows no signs of letting up. The National Weather Service in Portland, Oregon, has issued a detailed forecast, warning of persistent rain set to saturate the city for days. According to the NWS update, locals looking forward to a respite from the downpours will have to wait a little longer, with rainfall predicted to continue through the weekend and into the early part of next week.

During the overnight hours, steady rain is expected to maintain a temperature around 51 degrees. Swinging into Saturday, the high is projected to reach 55 degrees with a Southwest wind blowing at 6 to 8 mph. The NWS Portland states, "Chance of precipitation is 100%. New precipitation amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch possible." This soaked saga is primed to go on through Saturday night, with rain likely lingering and temperatures dropping to a low of around 44 degrees.

Folks are likely to face a soggy Sunday, too, as rain remains the main act, with highs stretching to 56 degrees. The NWS outlook cautions of south-southwest gusts as high as 20 mph and an 80% chance of more precipitation. As the city dives into Sunday night, the rainy conditions persist, with lows hovering around 47 degrees, accompanied by robust winds.

Any hopes for an outdoor lunch on Monday may be dashed since rain is forecasted before 11am, followed by showers and possibly a thunderstorm after 11am. "Chance of precipitation is 100%," asserts NWS Portland, signaling that drying out isn't in the forecast. That pattern will continue into the evening, with showers and a potential thunderstorm before giving way to clearer skies later in the week.

However, patience should pay off for those yearning for the sun, with the latter half of the week showing promise. After Tuesday's chance of thunderstorms, NWS predicts a gradual clearing. Wednesday is pegged to be partly sunny with a high near 62. Thursday and Friday offer a sunny reprieve, promising highs of 74 and 82 degrees, respectively, signaling an end to the relentless rain for Portlanders.
