In a decisive move, President Joe Biden proclaimed the extension of health care coverage to recipients of the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program. According to a statement on the White House website, this policy change enables Dreamers, the often-discussed youth enrolled in DACA, to access affordable and quality health care under the Affordable Care Act (ACA).

Speaking to the public, President Biden heralded Dreamers as integral to various societal roles, such as nursing and education. The President remarked on the vitality of their contributions, declaring, "Dreamers are our loved ones, our nurses, teachers, and small business owners. And they deserve the promise of health care just like all of us." An initiative introduced during Obama's presidency, DACA was Biden's partner nearly twelve years ago, which has since then safeguarded over 800,000 Dreamers, enabling them to lawfully work, continue their education, and enrich their communities.

For Biden, the commitments made to DACA recipients are a matter of pride. A White House statement elaborated on Biden's actions aimed at bolstering DACA, citing his directive to the Department of Homeland Security to "preserve and fortify" the program. The historic enactment of this final rule embodies the administration's endeavor to align DACA recipients' health care access with that of their fellow Americans.

Looking to the future, Biden emphasized the necessity of congressional action in providing lasting solutions for Dreamers. "On Day One of my administration, I sent a comprehensive immigration reform plan to Congress to protect Dreamers and their families," proclaimed Biden. According to him, it is only through Congress that Dreamers can attain permanent status and a clear path to citizenship, underscoring that "Congress must act."
