Rap Video Shoot in Universal City Ends with Police Chase and Arrest of Five Men on Multiple ChargesSource: Google Street View

Five men's rap video production turned into a real-life crime drama when they were arrested after a police chase in Universal City, according to authorities. Officials said the men were filming inside an abandoned apartment before fleeing on foot when approached by officers.

Patrol Lieutenant Stephen Rios remarked that the men had "cash, drugs, and guns" which were intended to be used as props in their video. During the pursuit, captured on body camera video, an officer can be seen running through a grassy area next to the highway, at one point confronting a 19-year-old suspect. In the video, the young man attempts to explain, "We were just shooting a music video," as KENS 5 reported.

One of the firearms found at the scene was confirmed stolen, with suspicions that others may be as well. Rios indicated that this behavior was not isolated, stating, "They go burglarize vehicles, they find weapons in the car, and then you got some teenage thugs out there armed."

Rios also emphasized the prevalence of such criminal activity among young adults, "These guys think it is cool, a lot of these guys we are encountering they are armed and involved in drug activity." He warned that this glamorization of crime often leads to its own downfall, "It is not cool, and eventually, it is going to catch up to you."

The combined effort of up to 12 officers, including assistance from Live Oak Police, led to the arrest of the five men involved. They are facing nearly 30 charges including engaging in organized crime, possession of a controlled substance, unlawful carrying of weapons, evading arrest, criminal trespass, and possession of marijuana.

The suspects, identified as Reginald McKay, 22, Davontae Sweeney, 19, Udarius Eubaire, 22, Josiah Briano, 18, and Kalvin Taylor, 28, were taken into custody without any injuries reported. "Nobody got hurt," Rios said. "I think overall they did a fantastic job," according to the statement obtained by KENS 5.
