Redford Man Dies in Fiery Crash After Car Strikes Southfield BuildingSource: Google Street View

A Redford man met a tragic end Wednesday night after his vehicle struck a Southfield building igniting a lethal blaze, officials said. Firefighters and police reported to 27050 W. Eight Mile Rd. at around 10:30 p.m., where they found both the car and building, housing the Ameri-Alarm company, engulfed in flames.

The 33-year-old driver, a Redford Township resident, tragically was pronounced dead at the scene, according to Southfield authorities. "It's just west of Indian Street on the westbound side of 8 Mile; the vehicle threading the needle between a street sign, a stop sign hitting a fence," WWJ's Mike Campbell reported. "And that may be where it went airborne for a second before travelling a distance across the lawn, and then slamming into the back of the building... and bursting into flames." An ongoing investigation has yet to conclude if the crash sparked the fire or precisely how the man died.

The impact left a large hole in the structure, and photos from the scene show the magnitude of damage, with workers boarding up the gaping breach the following morning. No other injuries were reported in the incident which shook the quiet hours of Southfield.

This was the second fatal incident to occur in Oakland County that day, officials confirmed. Earlier Wednesday in Oxford, a motorcyclist lost his life colliding with a car on North Lapeer Road, claiming a 66-year-old Orion Township man. Both accidents highlight the unforeseen perils that can lurk on seemingly calm suburban roads, a reminder of the fragility of life behind the wheel.

Detailed information on the incidents remains sparse as local news outlets, including FOX 2 Detroit and The Oakland Press, are closely following the developments. Authorities have not yet released the name of the Redford man as the investigation unfolds.
