Sharpei Mix Rescued on Phoenix's Lookout Mountain, Arizona Humane Society Waives Adoption FeesSource: Google Street View

An injured, dehydrated dog found clingy to life halfway up Phoenix’s Lookout Mountain was rescued in a dramatic twist of fate last week, officials from the Arizona Humane Society reported. The troubled pup was spotted on April 24 by an alert Good Samaritan.

The Arizona Humane Society sprang into action after the 2-year-old Sharpei mix, later dubbed Bright Eyes, was seen suffering on a narrow, winding, and slippery trail, and a call for help was placed, the humane society said, the person who found Bright Eyes remained with her until rescue arrived, providing comfort to the dog that was unable to walk down the treacherous path on her own. Upon their arrival, emergency animal medical technicians Tracey Miiller and Ruthie Jesus found Bright Eyes "Scared but open to receiving help, the dog was given a quick assessment where she was found to be dangerously dehydrated with cut-up paws and a wound on her hind end," 12 News reported.

After a quick evaluation revealed cut-up paws and a wound on her hind end, she was carefully carried down the mountain to where she could receive appropriate medical attention at AHS’ Lazin Animal Foundation Trauma Hospital. While the harrowing details of how long she was stranded and what led her there remain a mystery, animal officials believe chances are she would not have survived much longer.

To help other animals in crisis the Arizona Humane Society is waiving adoption fees until Sunday, May 5, due to a sponsorship from the BISSELL Pet Foundation, information and a list of adoptable pets can be found on the ABC15 website; whether Bright Eyes will join the list of adoptable pets soon is currently under wraps.
