A man was fatally shot yesterday evening in southeast Houston, sparking an investigation by local authorities. The Houston Police Department responded to the scene in the 7600 block of Greendowns, where the shooting incident erupted around 8:30 p.m., as reported by FOX 26 Houston.

Upon arrival at the scene, officers discovered a male victim suffering from a gunshot wound to the torso. Despite the efforts of emergency responders, who administered CPR before rushing him to a nearby trauma hospital, he was pronounced dead. 

According to the Houston Police X post, the possible shooter was detained on the scene. The event quickly escalated from a critical injury report to a confirmation of the victim's death at the hospital.

The man who claimed he was the shooter approached the police, suggesting he acted in self-defense. Entrusted to the care of homicide detectives for an interview, his fate has yet to be decided. Following the interview, detectives will work with the District Attorney's Office to ascertain whether charges should be filed or if the case will be handed over to a grand jury.
