Travis Wicks, a 48-year-old man from Washington D.C., was handed a 57-month prison sentence for illegal firearm possession. Wicks, with a history of violent crimes, was found with a modified Sig Sauer P-365 handgun turned rifle – equipped with a drum magazine carrying forty rounds and a laser sight, as the U.S. Attorney's Office announced.

In a search of Wicks' Southeast Washington D.C. apartment last year, police discovered the weapon alongside additional ammunition and a gun laser sight, according to a statement from the prosecuting U.S. Attorney Matthew M. Graves, and officials from the ATF and MPD. While serving an earlier sentence for a 2005 voluntary manslaughter conviction, Wicks plead guilty to the firearm possession charges, marking his fourth gun charge violation.

U.S. District Judge Timothy J. Kelly imposed the sentence and also mandated three years of supervised release following incarceration. The court documents revealed one found round of 9mm ammo in a kitchen cabinet, nine more in a bedroom closet, and the presence of a drum-style magazine with additional rounds in the closet where the converted firearm was discovered.

A deeper look into Wicks's criminal past unveils a track record replete with violence, displaying four instances of gun-related infractions. His most grievous offense dates back to October 2005, when he was found guilty of voluntary manslaughter, after stabbing an unarmed man repeatedly in a restaurant melee. The recent investigative efforts by the Metropolitan Police Department and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives culminated in the latest sentence for Wicks.
