Here's a roundup of notable crimes reported in the Tenderloin since our last edition. All details are drawn from SFPD daily reports, unless otherwise noted.

Phone stolen after altercation

Around 10:45pm on January 25th, a man said to be in his late twenties approached a 33-year-old man from behind near the intersection of Golden Gate Avenue and Taylor Street, started fighting him, and stole his phone.

The victim tried to get his device back, but the suspect fled westbound on Golden Gate, and no arrest has been made.

Cellphone robber attacks from behind

Around 10:15pm on January 23rd, an unknown suspect approached a 58-year-old woman from behind near the intersection of Market and Stockton streets and grabbed her cell phone.

The two struggled, but the suspect pulled the phone out of the victim’s hand and fled west on Market Street. 

Woman steals flag in Civic Center Plaza

A 21-year-old female in Civic Center Plaza around noon on January 20th was approached by a female suspect said to be 50 years who forcefully stole her flag.

The younger woman was injured but refused medical treatment.

Man robbed in two-on-one attack

About 10 minutes after midnight on January 20th, a 24-year-old man was approached by a woman and a man of unknown ages near the intersection of Market and 5th streets.

The man punched the victim several times, and the female went through the victim’s pockets and stole his phone, wallet, and money. The suspects fled through Mint Plaza, and have not been identified.

Woman robbed by gang of three men

A 41-year-old female was leaving a restaurant near the intersection of Golden Gate and Hyde streets around 4:00pm on January 19th when she was surrounded by three men said to be in their twenties. 

The suspects reached into her pockets, stole medication and currency, and fled towards Civic Center. No arrests have been made. 

Arsonist stuck in flaming toilet

Around 5:45pm on January 18th, a 53-year-old man lit a public toilet on fire with a blow torch near the intersection of Larkin Street and Myrtle Alley, then became stuck inside the flaming structure.

The suspect was arrested at the scene.

Man shot in Polk Gulch

A 49-year-old man was transported to a hospital shortly after 3:00am on January 18th for a life-threatening gunshot wound.

According to police, he was was wounded near the intersection of Larkin Street and Hemlock Alley, but no further details have been provided about the case. 

One arrested in two-on-one shooting

Around 10:00pm on January 17th, two men said to be in their early twenties pulled out handguns and began shooting at a 19-year-old man near the intersection of Larkin and Grove streets. 

The victim, who suffered non-life-threatening injuries, was taken to a hospital, and the first suspect, a 24-year-old man, was arrested nearby. The second suspect has not been identified or detained, however.

Man robbed from behind, loses cellphone

A 31-year-old man was approached from behind around 10:00pm on January 16th on the 100 block of Hyde Street (near Golden Gate Avenue) by a man who grabbed his cellphone.

The two men struggled, but the suspect was able to snatch the phone and flee the scene.

Man seriously injured by stabbing after argument

Around 5:00am on January 16th, a 46-year-old man got into an argument with an unknown suspect, who stabbed him on the unit block of 9th Street (near Market). 

The man took himself to the hospital for a wound that was reportedly life-threatening. No arrest has been made. 

Bike robbery at gunpoint

Around 6:30pm on January 13th, a man said to be 35 years old approached a 44-year-old man near the intersection of Market and Ellis streets, brandished a gun, and stole the victim’s bike. No arrest has been made. 

Two injured in knife fight

Two men, one 16 and one 37 years old, were stabbed during a fight with five other men said to be in their twenties on the 200 block of Leavenworth Street (near Eddy) just after midnight on January 13th.

Both of the victims were taken to the hospital, the younger one suffering from a life-threatening wound. None of the suspects have been identified.
