Here are some notable incidents that have taken place since our last biweekly recap covering SFPD's Central District, which encompasses Chinatown, Financial District, Embarcadero, Russian, Telegraph and Nob Hills, North Beach, and Union Square. 

Unless otherwise noted, all reports are drawn from the department's daily summary.

Suspects stabs two with scissors in North Beach

On April 18 around 2:27 p.m. near Joe DiMaggio Playground, two people were randomly stabbed by a stranger, but neither victim was seriously injured.

Argument turns into robbery

A 24-year-old man was attacked and robbed on April 17 at 3:47 p.m. on the 200 block of Post Street in Lower Nob Hill. 

The victim got into an argument with a 31-year-old man and was subsequently punched several times, according to police reports. The suspect then stole the victim's jewelry and fled the scene in an unknown vehicle. 

While the victim was injured, he refused medical treatment. 

Suspect steals woman's purse from her vehicle

On April 17 at around 12:07 p.m. on the 800 block of Bay Street in Russian Hill, a 39-year-old woman was robbed. 

The victim returned to her car and noticed a 35-year-old man holding her purse. The suspect then shoved the woman with a "closed fist" and fled the scene eastbound on Bay Street with the loot. 

While no injuries were reported, the victim lost her bag containing a wallet, debit cards and identification in the incident. 

Armed man steals victim's bag

On April 16 at 1:45 a.m. near the intersection of Van Ness Avenue and Bay Street, also in Russian Hill, a 25-year-old man was robbed at gunpoint. 

The victim was walking home when a man in his twenties grabbed his bag. The victim resisted until the suspect pointed a handgun, after which point he released the bag and the suspect fled the scene with another man. 

The victim suffered non-life-threatening injuries during the incident, but refused medical treatment. 

Man arrested after setting his room on fire

Firefighters responded to a blaze on the 300 block of Columbus Avenue in North Beach April 14 at 10 a.m.

According to police, a man in his sixties lit a fire in his room, causing injury to himself. Firefighters extinguished the small blaze before transporting the suspect to a hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries, where he was later arrested.

Police respond to calls of shots fired

On April 14 at 1:15 a.m., officers responded to the 900 Block of Pacific Avenue in Russian Hill after hearing reports of shots fired. 

Upon arriving, police recovered multiple bullet casings, but found no suspects, victims or damage to property. 

Teen arrested after cellphone grab

At 7pm on April 13 on the 500 block of Kearny Street in the FiDi, a 16-year-old male was arrested for forcibly stealing a 30-year-old woman's cellphone. 

The woman was walking when the teen approached and assaulted her, stole her phone and then fled on foot. Later, police located the suspect and took him into custody. The victim suffered minor injuries and was transported to an area hospital for treatment. 

Two teens arrested for cell phone robbery

Near the corner of Vallejo Street and Romolo Place in North Beach on April 13  at 6:23pm, two male teens, 16 and 17, were arrested for robbery. 

The victim, a 30-year-old woman, was walking when the two youths approached her and "wrestled away her phone," according to police. While the woman tried to retain the device, the teens overpowered her and fled with her phone.

The victim suffered non-life-threatening injuries, but it's unclear from reports if she was transported for treatment. Later, both teens were located and taken into custody by police. 

Robber absconds with woman's purse

On April 10 at 6:35 a.m. on the 1200 block of Bush Street in Lower Nob Hill, a 59-year-old woman was robbed by an unknown suspect. 

The woman was walking along Bush Street when the suspect approached her from behind. The suspect then attempted to take her purse and a struggle ensued. Ultimately, the suspect was able to nab the bag and fled eastbound on Bush Street. 

While the victim suffered minor injuries, she refused medical treatment. 

Suspects arrested in string of auto burglaries 

On April 2 at 1:45 a.m. near the corner of Grant Avenue and Filbert Street in North Beach, officers responded to calls that several suspects were breaking into parked vehicles.

While officers were en route, another witness notified them via dispatch that the suspect vehicle was spotted near the intersection of Montgomery and Francisco Streets.

Officers then observed a suspect breaking into another car, and located three additional suspects believed to have been involved in the burglaries.

Tyler McKinney, a 26-year-old resident of Berkeley, Christopher Wise, 28-years-old from Sacramento, Robert Warren, 23, from San Francisco, and a 16-year-old male juvenile were booked into county jail on two counts of burglary and one count of conspiracy each.
