It's time for another look at notable crimes reported in the Tenderloin district in the two weeks since our last roundup. Unless otherwise noted, all details are from SFPD reports.

Man robbed at gunpoint 

Around 11:45 p.m. on July 25th, a 39-year-old-man was walking near the intersection of 6th and Market streets when a man, said to be between 25 and 35 years old, drove towards him in a dark colored sedan.

The suspect got out of his car, pulled a gun on the victim and stole his wallet —including his driver’s license, debit cards, and cash — before returning to his vehicle and fleeing. No arrest has been made.

Robber strikes man with unknown weapon

A 65-year-old man was walking near the intersection of Turk and Taylor streets around 10 p.m. on July 25th when he was hit over the head with an unknown weapon and suffered a cut to his eyebrow. The victim soon realized his phone and wallet had been stolen, and was taken to the hospital for treatment. The suspect has not been identified. 

Man punched, robbed in front of group

Around 10:45 p.m. on July 24th, a 19-year-old male was walking near the intersection of 7th and Stevenson streets when he noticed a large group of people.

One male suspect approached the victim and punched him multiple times before fleeing with his cellphone, wallet, and cash. The victim was taken to the hospital for non-life-threatening cuts to his face and lips.o arrests have been made. 

Woman robs man at knifepoint

A woman said to be in her thirties approached a 27-year-old man on the 700 block of O’Farrell Street (near Hyde) around 8:30 a.m. on July 21st. The woman pushed the victim against a wall, held a knife to his stomach, and stole the victim’s money. She then fled in an unknown direction, and has not been identified. 

Man robbed in a bearhug

Around 10:02 p.m. on July 19th, a 64-year-old man standing on the 400 block of Ellis Street (near Jones) was approached by an unknown suspect from behind. The suspect bear-hugged the victim and stole his wallet before fleeing on foot. The victim wasn’t injured.

Man stabbed, woman hit with skateboard

A 21-year-old man and a 20-year-old woman were walking on the unit block of Mint Plaza at 2:20 a.m. on July 19th when they got into a verbal argument with four men. One of the suspects pepper-sprayed the two victims before a second suspect lunged at the woman with a skateboard, hitting her in the head.

The suspects fled the scene and remain unidentified. When the woman looked over at her companion, she realized he had been stabbed. He was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries to his chest. 

Four teens rob man looking for direction

A 60-year-old man was asking someone for directions on the 700 block of Ellis Street (near Larkin) around 6:30 p.m. on July 18th when four males, said to be in their late teens, approached him. One of the suspects, who was riding a bike, stole the victim’s cellphone, while the other three pushed him against the wall. No arrests have been made. 

Woman's family detains robber

Around 6:25 p.m. on July 18th, a 44-year-old man approached a 36-year-old woman near the intersection of Geary and Jones streets, snatched her phone from her hand, and ran. 

The woman chased the suspect, caught up, and grabbed his hood, causing him to throw the phone at the victim. The suspect threw the woman to the ground, but the victim’s family was able to detain the suspect until officers arrived and arrested him.

Backpack robber flees into Powell BART station

A 38-year-old man was walking into the Powell BART station entrance on the 800 block of Market Street (near Powell) when a man, said to be in his forties, grabbed his backpack. 

The victim struggled to hold on to his property, but the suspect threatened him enough that he dropped his backpack, including his phone and laptop. The suspect fled into BART with the victim’s backpack, and has not been identified.

Man assaulted in two-on-one robbery

Around 11:45 p.m. on July 16th, two men said to be in their early twenties approached a 35-year-old man on the 900 block of Market Street (near Powell).

One of the victims came forward and demanded the victim hand over his property, while the other held him from behind. Both suspects assaulted the victim and fled with his wallet, including bank card and cash, and his phone.

Woman punched, robbed of coin purse

Around 8:23 p.m. on July 15th, a woman said to be 24 years old approached a 21-year-old woman near the intersection of 7th and Market streets, punched her in the face, and stole her coin purse. The suspect fled and has not been identified.

Man struck on head with bottle

A 36-year-old man was outside his house on the 400 block of Jones Street (near Ellis) around 4:00 p.m. on July 15th when an unknown suspect hit him with a bottle. The victim was treated for non-life threatening injuries, but no arrest has been made.

Arrest made after stabbing

A 27-year-old man accused a 61-year-old man of robbing him on the 300 block of Turk Street (near Leavenworth) around 6:39 p.m. on July 14th. The younger man then stabbed the older man. The suspect was arrested, and the victim was treated for non-life-threatening injuries.
