Tenderloin crime: 84 arrested in drug-bust, mother threatens rec center patrons, morePhoto: Carrie Sisto/Hoodline

The SFPD rounded up 84 people in the Tenderloin through a targeted drug-bust that spanned just one week, October 8th through October 14th. In addition to those arrests and the increased police presence in the UN Plaza area, SFPD responded to numerous crimes over the past several weeks since our last roundup.

Details of the Tenderloin station’s activities come directly from SFPD reports unless otherwise noted. 

Mother threatens to kill rec center patrons

Around 6:45 p.m. on October 24th, a 39-year-old woman was arrested for threatening people at the Tenderloin Recreation Center at 570 Ellis St.

The woman was at the rec center with her children, when she overheard a nine-year-old boy ask her children about their father. The mother became angry and claimed she would kill the child's mother and everyone at the Rec Center, by either burning the center down or shooting it up. She was then detained by police.

Man reports punching, robbery

A 31-year-old man was walking near the intersection of Market and 6th streets around midnight on October 24th when a man, said to be in his late 20s, punched him in the face and stole his phone, money and credit cards. The suspect fled, and the victim reported the incident the following day. 

Man reports being robbed by 12 men

A 31-year-old man told SFPD that 12 men spoke to him around 2 a.m. October 24th at an unknown location in the Tenderloin, before stealing his phone and credit card. The victim alleged that he was injured during the incident. No suspects have been identified. 

Backpack stolen in two-on-one assault

Around 2 p.m. on October 23rd, a 49-year-old man was walking on the 200 block of Leavenworth when a man said to be in his late 40s grabbed his backpack. Another man, said to be in his early 50s, pushed the victim. 

The two suspects robbed the man of his bag, including his money and medications, before fleeing on foot. 

Metal pipe attack leaves man injured

Around 9:45 p.m. on October 21st, a man said to be 30 years old struck a 57-year-old man in the head and arm with a metal pipe, after having an argument near the intersection of Turk and Jones streets. The victim wasn’t robbed but was treated for non-life-threatening injuries. The suspect has not been identified.

Seven-on-one attack leaves man injured by piece of wood

Seven men approached a 22-year-old man at an ATM on the 300 block of Larkin Street (near McAllister) and demanded the victim hand over his phone, bag, and cash.

One of the men hit the victim with a piece of wood, causing him to fall to the ground and drop his property. The man’s property hasn’t been recovered and all seven suspects remain at large. 

Man robbed at knifepoint

A man said to be in his late 20s approached a 70-year-old man from behind with a knife near the intersection of Market and Jones streets around 3:15 p.m. on October 21st. The suspect stole the older man’s wallet and cash, and fled on foot. 

Woman loses purse to bike-riding robber

A 40-year-old woman had her purse grabbed off her shoulder by an unknown suspect near the intersection of Kearny and Market streets around 12:45 a.m. on October 21st. The woman fell to the ground, and the suspect fled on his bike. 

Man steals phone using syringe as threat

Around 3:30 p.m. on October 21st, an unknown man grabbed a 45-year-old woman’s phone on the 500 block of Stevenson Street (near 6th). The suspect threatened the woman with a syringe, took her phone and fled the scene. No arrest has been made.

Man robbed in four-on-one assault

A 53-year-old man was walking near the intersection of Taylor and Post streets around 2 a.m. on October 20th when he was approached by two men and two women who robbed him of his phone, computer, wallet, and cash. No arrests have been made.

Woman drives car into suspects

Around 10:10 p.m. on October 17th, a 44-year-old man and an 18-year-old female were exchanging information with a woman when a verbal argument ensued. The woman drove her vehicle toward the suspects, causing non-life-threatening injuries. No arrests have been made in the case, which is being investigated as a hit and run.

Man robbed at knifepoint by man-and-woman couple

Just before 2 a.m. on October 17th, an 18-year-old man walked out of a bar on the corner of Larkin and Geary streets when a man brandished a knife at him. 

A woman, said to be 30 years old, then grabbed the victim’s wallet from his back pocket and both suspects fled eastbound on Geary. 

Unknown witness helps woman retrieve phone in robbery

A man snatched a phone from a 31-year-old woman around 10:30 p.m. on October 15th near the intersection of 5th and Jessie streets, when an unknown witness attempted to intervene. The suspect dropped the phone but fled north on 5th and has not been detained. 

Man loses wallet in six-on-one attack

Around 7 p.m. on October 14th, a 36-year-old man on the 200 block of Golden Gate Avenue (near Leavenworth) was attacked by six men, fell to the ground, and had his wallet stolen. The six suspects fled on foot and haven’t been identified.
