Amazon debuts second self-service 'Amazon Go' store in the Financial DistrictPhoto: Amazon Go/Yelp

Amazon's experimental, cashierless convenience store Amazon Go has debuted a second San Francisco location at 98 Post St., two blocks from Union Square. Like its predecessor at 300 California St., which debuted back in October, it offers convenience-store staples, as well as grab-and-go food and meal kits.

Customers must download the Amazon Go app — which is separate from the regular Amazon app — in order to browse the store's selection of prepared foods, which include jerk chicken sandwiches, butter chicken with turmeric rice, and more. There's also an array of snacks, sweets and drinks, from sodas to sparkling water.

Choices in hand, they then simply walk out the door, and Amazon charges their accounts. But the cashierless checkout concept doesn't mean the shop is fully automated: orange-shirted employees are standing by to help customers find things and answer questions.

The second Amazon Go has gotten off to a solid start thus far, with a four-star rating out of five reviews on Yelp.

Yelper Jessica C., who was the first to review the new store, praised its "great, central location for FiDi workers ... The interior is relatively small and a bit cramped, but they offer a wide selection and variety of freshly prepared foods, as well as some 'healthy' junk-food favorites like Pirate's Booty and beef jerky."

"I give it a 5/5 for the experience," wrote Liz B. on January 4. "Great for when you're in a pinch and need something quick but filling ... Within about 7 minutes, the app will show you a detailed receipt of your purchases and how long you took lollygagging in the store."

Intrigued? Stop in to try it for yourself. Amazon Go is open from 7 a.m.–8 p.m. on weekdays. (It's closed on weekends.)
