Hoodline crunched the numbers to find the top exercise studios around Oakland, using both Yelp data and our own secret sauce to produce a ranked list of the best places to venture next time you're looking to try something new.

1. Truve

Topping the list is Truve. Located in the Hive at 2345 Broadway (between 24th and 23rd streets) in Uptown Oakland, this personal training and group fitness gym is the highest rated studio in Oakland, boasting five stars out of 146 reviews on Yelp.

2. Ride Oakland

Next up is Piedmont Avenue's Ride Oakland, situated at 4448 Piedmont Ave. (between Pleasant Valley and Ramona avenues). With five stars out of 116 reviews on Yelp, the cycling gym has proven to be a local favorite for its reasonable prices and varied workouts. It also promises state-of-the-art bikes, and a top-notch sound system to keep workouts lively. 

3. Sweat Strength + Cycling

Rockridge's Sweat Strength + Cycling, located at 5410 College Ave. (between Hudson Street and Kales Avenue), is another top choice, with Yelpers giving the combination circuit training gym and cycling studio (which also offers personal training) five stars out of 102 reviews.

4. Game Changer Fitness

Game Changer Fitness, a gym and personal training spot in Shafter that offers group fitness classes and boot camps, is another much-loved go-to, with five stars out of 89 Yelp reviews.

Head over to 5427 Telegraph Ave., Suite W1 (between 55th Street) to see the gym one Yelper called, "the quintessential Oakland gym ... This gym attracts a diverse and inclusive community where all fitness levels are accommodated."

5. The Perfect Sidekick Queer Gym

Last but not least, check out The Perfect Sidekick Queer Gym, which has earned 4.5 stars out of 251 reviews on Yelp. You can find the gym, boot camp and personal training spot, which calls itself "the first queer gym in the nation," at 1243 E. 12th St. (between 13th Avenue and 14th Street).
