DUI Driver Strikes Again: Hit-and-Run Chaos in PetalumaPetaluma PD

A dangerous DUI driver has struck again, causing injury and chaos in a hit-and-run collision yesterday, in Petaluma, California. According to a Petaluma Police Department press release, 58-year-old Charles Piezzi, a Petaluma resident, rear-ended a vehicle on Lakeville Highway, setting off a chain reaction involving four vehicles.

As a result of the collision, one adult female was rushed to Petaluma Valley Hospital for treatment, and a 12-year-old child received care for minor injuries on the scene. Piezzi, already on DUI probation and with a suspended driver's license, didn't stick around to face the consequences. According to the press release, he drove his vehicle over a curb, parked it in a nearby lot, and fled on foot into a nearby neighborhood.

However, vigilant witnesses tracked Piezzi to the backyard of a home on Rio Nido Way, where officers finally caught up with him – not before Piezzi ignored their commands to surrender and entered the residence via the unlocked backdoor in an attempt to flee. He jumped the rear fence and entered another backyard, but officers quickly gave chase and detained Piezzi without further incident.

Upon contact, Piezzi displayed clear signs of alcohol intoxication. A records check confirmed that his driver's license was suspended due to a prior DUI arrest. Furthermore, it was discovered that Piezzi had switched license plates with another vehicle he owned. The investigation revealed his blood alcohol content to be 0.17% BAC, more than twice the legal limit.

Piezzi faces a litany of charges, including DUI with injury, hit-and-run with injury, burglary, resist/obstruct peace officers, driving while his license was suspended for DUI, displaying false license plates, and violation of DUI probation. He was later booked at the Sonoma County Main Adult Detention Facility on these charges, as mentioned in the police department's statement.
