In a bid to curb impaired driving, the Oakland Police Department has announced the setup of a DUI checkpoint on February 21st from 6:00pm to 4:00am, as noted on their Facebook page. Nevertheless, the exact location remains within the veil of undisclosed secrecy, aimed at catching unsuspecting impaired drivers.

The criteria for stationing the checkpoint are anchored firmly in data reflecting a history of impaired driving crashes in specific areas. "Impaired drivers put others on the road at significant risk," A/ Lt. Greg Bellusa noted in his statement. These initiatives are fueled by the desire to enhance public safety through the reduced presence of potentially incapacitated drivers weaving through Oakland's thoroughfares.

OPD also took the time to remind the public that the source of impairment doesn't always flow from the bottle. Various prescription medication and seemingly benign over-the-counter drugs can equally hamper a driver's ability to navigate the roads safely. Furthermore, while the use of marijuana, both medicinal and recreational, is legalized within California's confines, its influence behind the wheel renders such acts unlawful.
