An Apple Valley man, who allegedly went on a knife-wielding rampage in a bid for "suicide by cops," was taken into custody without incident by deputies Saturday, according to the San Bernardino Sheriff’s Department. The call from the residence came in at around 11:55 a.m., alerting deputies to a situation where the man was reportedly hurling knives at other residents in the 15900 block of Chehalis Road.

The suspect, identified as 50-year-old Lance Sterling McGhee, allegedly threw a knife at a deputy and retreated through the house, where he armed himself with further weapons including a metal bar and chain; this is according to the press release by the Sheriff-Coroner, San Bernardino County Sheriff-Coroner Department, the hostages, who were at the residence when the deputies arrived, luckily escaped any physical harm. In an operation that showed restraint and tactical precision, the deputies deployed a less lethal bean bag round to subdue McGhee, who was then assessed by medical staff before being booked at High Desert Detention Center. He now faces charges of assault with a deadly weapon, assaulting a peace officer with a deadly weapon, and corporal injury to a spouse or cohabitant, and his bail is set at $50,000.
