Eden Prairie Gears Up for Spring Recycling and Small Business Week CelebrationsSource: Eden Prairie

Eden Prairie residents are about to get their spring cleaning on, with ample opportunities to responsibly dispose of unwanted items. According to a recent report by the city, the Spring Recycling Drop-Off Event kicks off on May 4 at the City's Yard Waste Site, offering a place to recycle appliances, electronics, and furniture, including mattresses. Note that this service is strictly for residents with valid ID for that proof of residency.

The Spring Recycling Curbside Pickup service is set to quickly come by residences between May 1 and 31. Folks need only to give Certified Recycling a call at 952-894-1448 to set up a pickup window Monday through Friday. Pricing and further details about both initiatives can be found on Eden Prairie's official website.

The Yard Waste Site on Flying Cloud Drive is open for business Friday through Sunday. It's a free service for residents and businesses, where guidelines and a list of accepted materials are readily available online.

Eden Prairie isn't just taking care of the environment. It's also celebrating the backbone of its economy—the small businesses. The city council has dedicated the week of April 28 to May 4 as "Small Business Week." Officials are encouraging people to shop local to support the invaluable contributions these establishments make to the Eden Prairie economy. Activities and more information are available leading up to National Small Business Week.

Moreover, Hennepin County is stepping up for homeowners living with the specter of lead paint. Homes built before 1978 may have this hazardous material, so the county is offering grants to help homeowners get rid of it—to the tune of up to $15,000 for those who qualify. Information on the grants can be found on the Hennepin County website.

The Eden Prairie Fire Department also had a busy start to 2024, with 763 service calls, up from the previous year's 717 calls during the same quarter. They've been honing their skills, too—over 5,600 training hours have been logged among their ranks, adding four new Duty Crew Firefighters to their team.

In the spirit of recognition, the city's Spring Employee Recognition Event took a moment to celebrate the hard-working individuals serving the community. Honoring their dedication, the city doled out "EPy" Awards to individuals setting the bar high across various categories, including customer service, teamwork, leadership, and community service.

Eden Prairie citizens can attend various public meetings, including the Parks, Recreation, and Natural Resources Commission on May 6 and the City Council on May 7, to get involved in shaping their community's future directly.
