According to officials, a woman was hit and killed by an 18-wheeler after she had stopped to assist with traffic control following a crash that occurred earlier in the morning.

The initial accident, involving a pickup truck and an 18-wheeler possibly due to foggy conditions and excessive speed, prompted the woman to act. In her endeavor to caution approaching drivers, the unforeseen happened: another 18-wheeler, swerving to avoid the original wreckage, plowed into the median and struck her. She was pronounced dead at the scene, the Texas Highway Patrol reported, according to KENS5.

Soon after the woman's death, another vehicle became involved in the wreckage, leading to further chaos on the congested highway. A man from the additional crash was transported to the University Hospital in San Antonio to treat unknown injuries, his condition has not been disclosed.
