Police in Washington, D.C. have put cuffs on a man accused of a shooting in Northeast that left a woman seriously injured. The Metropolitan Police reported the February incident drew officers to the block where they discovered the gunshot victim.

The shooting took place on February 28, when Fifth District officers were called to the 2000 block of Benning Road, Northeast, after gunshots rang out. Upon their arrival at 12:29 a.m., they found an adult woman with gunshot wounds. The victim received hospital treatment shortly after the incident, according to the Metropolitan Police Department's news release.

Two months of investigation led to the arrest of 33-year-old Scotland Alston on April 28. The Police Department’s Fifth District Crime Suppression Team apprehended Alston, a Northeast local, following a D.C. Superior Court arrest warrant issued in connection with the shootin, as per the Metropolitan Police Department. Alston has been charged with Assault with Intent to Kill (gun).
