Miami Beach residents might want to hold on to their hats this weekend, as forecasters are predicting breezy conditions and possible spotty showers. According to the National Weather Service, winds could reach speeds of 20 mph with gusts up to 30 mph, leading to a mix of clouds and sun with a high near 80F. "A slight chance of sprinkles before 8am, then a slight chance of showers between 8am and 11am," the service predicts for today, suggesting that despite a 20 percent chance of precipitation, it won't be a total washout.

The weather pattern comes as a result of an area of strong high pressure building in from our north. This pressure is not just cranking up the wind; it's also stirring up the Atlantic. According to WSVN's weather blog, expect "sustained up to 25 mph along the coast with gusts up to 35-40 mph" which is unusual compared to the seasonably cool conditions experienced over the last few months. Despite the potential for brief showers, most of South Florida should remain dry throughout the weekend.

Beachgoers should take warning, however, as these winds are not just cooling down the coast but also creating potentially hazardous conditions. A High Surf Advisory is in effect for Broward County beaches, with the possibility of large waves reaching 5-8 feet, and a Small Craft Advisory warns of dangerous marine conditions. The same high pressure causing the gusts is also responsible for a high risk for rip currents, so swimmers should proceed with caution.

Looking ahead, the pesky showers may linger a little into next week as the breeze slowly weakens. "This spotty shower chance will continue into the start of next week while temperatures hold steady in the low to mid 80s for highs," experts at WSVN explained.
