Flames engulfed the Oceanside Pier yesterday afternoon, with firefighters battling the blaze into the early hours of today. The city confirmed that the situation is under control, saving a good portion of the popular landmark. According to Oceanside city officials, the firefighting teams contained the fire to the pier's far west end, where a vacant restaurant and the small The Brine Box food kiosk suffered heavy damage.

As crews continue their work, the beach and Strand areas around the pier remain closed as a safety precaution; the public should maintain a distance for their safety. Programs at the Junior Seau Beach Recreation Center were also shut down. While all who were on the pier are accounted for with no injuries, officials say the cause of the fire is still under investigation.

Coordination to combat the significant fire included many first responders and neighboring teams—from Oceanside Fire and Police to Vista and Carlsbad Fire Departments. Even the California Office of Emergency Services and the U.S. Coast Guard participated. 

The initial outbreak of the fire disrupted the pier's daily rhythm at 3:00 p.m. yesterday, causing notable damage to the establishments at the pier's end. Structures caught in the conflagration were quickly taken up by local firefighters, who received aid from CalFire helicopters and Coast Guard vessels battling the flames from air and water, efforts that continued throughout the night until containment was achieved this morning.
