Bedford Park Man Accused of First-Degree Murder in Bridgeview ShootingSource: Bridgeview Police Department

A Cook County man has been nabbed for a deadly shooting that took place outside a Bridgeview apartment complex early Wednesday, officials said. The suspect, identified as 20-year-old Anthony Calderon from Bedford Park, stands accused of gunning down a man who was merely heading to his car at the start of his workday, according to FOX 32 Chicago.

The victim, 39-year-old Arturo Cantu, was ambushed by Calderon, authorities allege, as Cantu approached his vehicle which he had remote-started outside his residence located in the 7300 block of 79th Street. Calderon reportedly confronted Cantu, then shot him twice, leaving Cantu to succumb to his wounds on the spot, the local police said.

Bridgeview Police, who responded to the emergency, discovered Cantu's body beside his apartment building. Calderon was arrested on a first-degree murder charge Friday night after law enforcement managed to trace him through video footage secured from nearby businesses, The Chicago Sun-Times reported.

Police Chief Ricardo Mancha, addressing the incident, characterized the fatal shooting as an isolated event. "The shooting was an isolated incident," Mancha told reporters, and he assured the public that an investigation was underway to uncover the motive behind the attack and killing. Meanwhile, Calderon's day in court was set for Saturday morning.
