Miami-Dade kids might just have a cooler summer this year, thanks to Chairman Oliver G. Gilbert, III's 2024 Safe Summers Initiative. The Office of the Chairman is once again opening doors for local summer programs to score some extra cash to keep the district's youth safe, engaged, and out of trouble during the sultry months.

The initiative, aimed at propping summer programs within District 1, is looking for applicants who are ready to serve up some fun and learning for the area's kids. Working their magic last year for the first time, Gilbert's program provided a financial boost to a variety of summer activities. This year, with mouths to feed in more ways than one, programs that are interested need to be situated in District 1 to take a slice of the funding pie. According to a release dated May 7 on the Miami-Dade County's official website, applications are due no later than Friday, May 10, and all required documents better be attached, or else.

Details about the application requirements as well as the application itself are a click away. For those with burning questions or in need of guidance, Ymonie Lopez is the go-to person and can be reached at her email [email protected] or by dialing (305) 474-3011.
