A somber discovery was made at Braintree Park when an elderly woman was found dead in a pond on Monday afternoon, officials said. The Norfolk County District Attorney's Office identified the deceased as 79-year-old Mulain Chin of Weymouth, confirming the details to Boston 25 News.

Responding to a report, officers unearthed the body in shallow water at Meadow Park near a small bridge around 2:30 p.m., the District Attorney's office reported. Initially meeting with a family member for a walk in the park, Chin did not appear at the planned location, which caused that family member to alert the Braintree authorities after discovering the body later herself.

The circumstances at the scene "do not immediately suggest foul play," stated the District Attorney's office in a release picked up by Patch. That said, officials are awaiting further details from the medical examiner's report before drawing any conclusions.

Authorities, including state and local police, are still investigating Chin's death to understand what happened. The park, usually a place for gatherings, is now the center of a sad mystery as officials work to find out what went wrong during the 79-year-old's leisurely stroll with a relative.
