Garland Seeks Artistic Entries for Juneteenth Celebration, Local Talent Spotlighted in ExhibitionSource: Google Street View

Garland's creative community is springing into action as the city calls for entries for its Juneteenth Celebration art exhibition. The event, slated for June 15, aims to showcase 2D visual artworks that resonate with the spirit of Juneteenth. According to the city's official call for participants, the chosen pieces will be displayed at the City of Garland's celebratory event from 5-9 pm, after which they will grace the walls of Epiphany Gallery and Fields Rec Center from June 18 through June 26.

North Texas artists, it's time to step up your game because submissions for the exhibition opened on May 1 and will close by the end of the month, May 31. Those hoping to contribute have a spectrum of mediums to choose from, including, but not limited to, paintings, drawings, printmaking, and collage. According to the City of Garland, submissions must not exceed 24 inches in width and can be submitted by artists of all skill levels and ages, spreading across adult and youth categories. The call suggests that image quality does matter and entrants should make sure their digital entries are in tip-top condition.

Pushing towards a vibrant representation of the community, the selection process will conclude with approximately 25 pieces chosen in each category. Accepted artists will be notified by June 5, while the city will not notify those whose work has been passed over. "Artists with accepted entries will be notified by email on June 5, 2024," as stated by the City of Garland. The selected artwork must be ready to hang and delivered on June 11, just in time for the main event.

For the art aficionados who can't make it to the one-day event, fear not. The complete exhibition will remain accessible at both Epiphany Gallery and Fields Rec Center for a good part of June. It is a prime opportunity to soak in a collection that's as much about celebration as it is about reflection, encapsulating a monumental chapter in American history. While the City of Garland will take every precaution to safeguard the artworks, artists are advised to insure their creations due to the unpredictable nature of public exhibitions.

Beyond the opportunity for local exposure, artists granted permission for the City of Garland to use accepted images on the city's website and various marketing materials, a bonus for those looking to get their names and talents out there.
