Houston Father and Sons Charged in Fatal April Shootout on South Wayside DriveSource: City of Houston

Three suspects, including a father and his two sons, have been charged in connection with a deadly April shootout in Houston that claimed the life of one man and severely injured another. Hernan Torres, Sr., 50, Hernan Torres, Jr., 25, and Hernando Torres, 19, now face murder charges as the aftermath of gunfire on South Wayside Drive unfolds in the judicial system.

HPD Homicide Division detectives pieced together the sequence of events that started at a local convenience store and culminated in a hail of bullets at approximately 8:20 p.m. on the first of April. An unfortunate encounter that led Luis Alfredo Pacheco, 34, to Ben Taub General Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, and another man, 29, to a hospital bed fighting for his life, according to a city news release.

Detectives initially broadcasted the hunt for the gunmen, asking for the public's help with surveillance photos that showed the suspects, described at the time as adult Hispanic males, and their getaway vehicles. The break in the case came when Hernan Torres, Jr. and Hernando Torres were arrested without incident by a well-coordinated effort involving the HPD South Gessner Patrol Division Crime Suppression Team, Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) agents, and U.S. Marshals on May 6.

Hernan Torres, Sr., the elder of the trio, is being held in Philadelphia on unrelated charges, facing extradition back to Harris County to answer for his alleged role in the tragedy. "A 2022 Harris County booking photo is attached to this news release," as per the official statement.  This development comes as part of an ongoing investigation by local authorities, who continue to analyze evidence and witness testimonies to unravel the full narrative behind the April shootout. The suspects are in custody.
