A deadly exchange of words turned lethal at a Houston McDonald's when an altercation over a fast-food order spilled into gun violence this past Thursday. A man was fatally shot inside the establishment located at 8147 Katy Freeway after trying to deescalate a situation with an irate fellow customer. FOX26 Houston reports that the confrontation took place following a dispute that started within the restaurant.

The fatal incident unfolded when the suspect, unhappy with his meal, demanded a refund. Trying to calm the suspect down, the victim found himself in an escalating argument. According to Click2Houston, once both men took the disagreement outside, the victim attempted to defuse the situation by pushing the suspect to the ground, who retrieved a firearm from his car and shot the victim twice before fleeing the scene.

Local police have not yet identified the shooter involved in the case, as the investigation continues. Details of the victim’s condition were not immediately available following the shooting. Eyewitness reports suggest that the victim managed to retreat back into the fast-food outlet, where emergency services were called to the scene.

The victim tried to calm down the suspect, a lieutenant with the Houston Police Department at the scene reported to Click2Houston. With the shooter still at large, police have not released any further information, maintaining that the situation is under active investigation.
