A man who broke into a Fairview home and sparked an hours-long standoff with police was arrested late Wednesday, authorities said. The standoff began when a 911 call was made by a homeowner claiming an intruder was attempting to break into their residence on the 200 block of Bridge Street, as per the Multnomah County Sheriff’s Office.

The situation escalated quickly, with the suspect barricading himself inside the home, prompting a large scale response from local law enforcement. According to KPTV, more than 40 units, including Portland tactical crews and the Gresham Police Department, had joined the effort by 6:30 p.m. Meanwhile, the occupant and other individuals inside the home, were safely evacuated and congregated down the street.

As the incident unfolded, neighbors were alerted to the ongoing police activity. KATU reported that deputies had assured the community there was no broader threat to public safety while their resources zeroed in on a confined search perimeter.

Concerns heightened during the 911 call, with deputies informed that the man may have access to weapons, though no additional details were provided by the sheriff's office. The East Metro SWAT team was dispatched and successfully obtained an arrest warrant, KGW reported. Shortly before 11 p.m., the SWAT team, which includes members from both the sheriff's office and Gresham police, entered the home, and the man was taken into custody.

No injuries were reported following the incident. The Multnomah County Sheriff's Office stated the man's identity would be released once he was booked into jail, with his charges yet to be specified.
