In a fatal encounter with law enforcement, Stephen Maclean, a 35-year-old Massachusetts man from Raynham, was shot dead after allegedly drawing a handgun on officers at his apartment door, said Bristol County District Attorney Thomas Quinn. According to a statement obtained by Boston 25 News, the incident unfolded yesterday afternoon when police were responding to a call about Maclean acting erratically.

The events rapidly escalated when Maclean purportedly opened his apartment door to quickly point a loaded gun at several responding officers. "He opened the door and pointed a gun at the officers," Quinn detailed in a press conference. As reported by WCVB, amidst the confrontation, one officer deployed a stun gun while two others discharged their firearms, fatally wounding Maclean who was later pronounced dead at Morton Hospital.

Before the shooting, Maclean had recently been in legal trouble, facing charges for intimidation of a witness and disorderly conduct linked to a court case involving his girlfriend. Despite being on probation for a prior operating under the influence case, Maclean was released after a court appearance. Events took a turn for the worse the following day, prompting his girlfriend to call the police over his belligerent behavior after being fired from his job for showing up intoxicated, according to D.A. Quinn.

Neighbors recounted hearing multiple gunshots during the incident. A local resident, Kyle Wilder, told Boston 25 News, "They were all repetitive like boom boom boom boom boom and that was it." The police were to have worn body cameras at the time, which captured the encounter. D.A. Quinn emphasized the importance of a cautious review of such cases, noting that Maclean appeared to have drawn his firearm "without any justification," as the officers were there lawfully performing their duties.
