A young man's struggle for life ended in tragedy after a shooting incident in Vista, as reported by the San Diego Sheriff's Department. Frank Martinez, 21, was shot nearly three weeks ago while walking on the 300 block of S. Santa Fe Avenue and has now succumbed to his injuries, a press release confirmed.

Despite the immediate intervention of deputies and the Vista Fire Department, who treated Martinez at the scene and transported him to a hospital, the young man's condition declined. The Sheriff's Homicide Unit was notified by the Medical Examiner's Office on April 29, that Martinez died as a result of the injuries sustained in the shooting, according to the San Diego Sheriff's Department. Initially handled by Vista Street Narcotics and Gang detectives, the Homicide Unit has now taken over the investigation.

The search for the suspect continues, with no arrests made yet. Law enforcement is reaching out to the community for assistance, encouraging anyone with information to come forward.
