A young man from Washington D.C. has been sentenced to nearly four years behind bars for firearms charges stemming from a dicey high-speed chase that ended in a violent car crash, federal authorities reported. Jordan Tyler Alexander, 20, received a 46-month prison sentence on Tuesday after pleading guilty to illegal possession of a firearm as a convicted felon, according to a statement from U.S. Attorney Matthew M. Graves.

The chase occurred last summer when a Prince George’s County police officer spotted a suspicious Honda Accord, which was later revealed to be stolen. When the officer attempted a traffic stop, the Honda fled, igniting a pursuit that led into the District and peaked at speeds of 100 mph. Alexander crashed the stolen car into a guardrail on I-295 and attempted to flee on foot but was apprehended by law enforcement.

Investigators at the crash site uncovered a Glock 27, 40 caliber handgun with an extended magazine loaded with 17 bullets and one in the chamber on the driver’s side floorboard of the wrecked vehicle. They found an additional firearm, a black Glock 22, .40 caliber pistol, on the front passenger seat. This sentencing also carries three years of supervised release following Alexander's prison term, as ordered by U.S. District Court Judge Richard J. Leon.

The case, part of Project Safe Neighborhoods, was a joint investigation between the Prince George’s County Police Department, the Metropolitan Police Department, and the ATF Washington Field Division. Alexander, who also faces trial for armed robbery and weapons charges in Prince George's County, Maryland, will be serving time for his recent brush with the law, detailed the U.S. Attorney’s office. The prosecution was led by Assistant U.S. Attorney Shehzad Akhtar, with paralegal Karla Nunez providing additional assistance.
