Another kayaker spotted the man in distress and alerted the SFFD, which conducted the initial search.
After two hours, the Coast Guard took over and released city resources, fire officials reported. As of this writing; the search continues, but we'll update this story with new information when it's available.
Update, 8/29, 2:06pm: Hoodline spoke to public affairs specialist Sarah Wilson of the Pacific Southwest Coast Guard, and she told us that the search was suspended at 5pm on Saturday. The missing man was not located.
Wilson noted that the search—which involved both SFFD and the Coast Guard—also drew many Good Samaritans. She said that there were roughly 50 searchers who also participated in the search.
"The community really did come together for the missing kayaker," she told us.
